No Mud. No Miles. No Mercy. Alpha Warrior Fiesta Fitness Challenge Invites Public to Test Their Fitness

Fiesta’s reputation as a 10-day party focused on food and drink will have a new component this year–the ultimate test of toughness to find Fiesta’s Fittest: The Alpha Warrior Fiesta Fitness Challenge powered by San Antonio Sports. Teams and individuals will be invited to compete at the Alpha Warrior Proving Grounds at Retama Park on Saturday, April 25 in a one-of-a-kind fitness challenge to earn the title of Fiesta’s Fittest. The course is not open to the public, so this is a unique opportunity for the general public to test their fitness and fortitude. Proceeds from the Challenge benefit the nonprofit San Antonio Sports. Registration and more information can be found at SanAntonioSports.org/fiestafitness.

The Alpha Warrior Proving Grounds is a state-of-the-art obstacle course specifically designed to test every aspect of physical fitness, the strength of every muscle group, mental fortitude and the body’s ability to keep going. The past two years, high school teams of 10 (five boys, five girls) have competed with the help of a military team captain in the Alpha Warrior Team Tough Challenge powered by San Antonio Sports on Battle of Flowers Friday. That competition will continue on Friday, April 24. New this year, a second day of competition will include adult participants who can choose to compete as individuals or in teams of four (men/women/coed).

Fiesta royalty is also part of the event. The inaugural court includes two individuals with a long connection to San Antonio Sports and who share our passion about the “Power of Sport”.  They are excited to help launch a new Fiesta event — Fiesta Fit Queen Lara Fischer and King Tyreo Harrison are raising awareness about the competition and the importance of balancing Fiesta fun with fitness. They are also raising funds for San Antonio Sports i play! afterschool program which provides skill-based instruction in five sports, nutrition and character education to 1,450 underserved children in 58 schools.

Fischer currently serves as vice president of sponsorship, sales and marketing, for The Scholastic Network. Health, fitness and sports are her passion. “I truly believe that the recipe to a healthy and happy lifestyle includes nurturing mental health through a positive mindset mixed with physical activity, daily laughter, lots of fun, wine, cheese and great friends,” she says. “It’s all about finding your balance. To me, being Fiesta Fit Queen is an opportunity to raise money and directly impact the next generation through the power of sport, which lays an incredible foundation for a healthy mindset at a young age.”

Harrison is executive vice president for SWBC Financial Institutions Group. A former NFL player, he knows first-hand the power of sport. “Every day, I wake up with a burning desire to make the most of that day.  To take another step toward my goals and to help others reach their goals while I’m at it,” he explains. “I do not simply live to reach goals. I strive to reach goals because that is the way I prefer to live. I believe I was born this way but I also believe that participating in organized sports helped me turn something very natural into an invaluable intangible that has defined my professional career–on the field and now in business. I’m happy to support San Antonio Sports’ mission as the 2020 Fiesta Fit King because I’m 100% sold on their commitment to inspire families to live active, healthy and PASSIONATE lives through the power of sport!”

There are separate registration fees to compete in the individual and team competitions with early registration discounts available. The event is free to spectators. For more information, visit SanAntonioSports.org.
