Winner Gets Fit from Home

Every summer since 2010, San Antonio Sports Fit Family Challenge presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas has provided families the opportunity to get active and learn about health and fitness. But this year is different. San Antonio Sports launched Fit Family Challenge Home Edition presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, giving families access to FREE live and recorded fitness classes they can do from their own home. This virtual program also offers great prize incentives to keep people moving.

Our first winner of a Fit Family Challenge Home Edition $100 gift card is Patricia Chavez. Patricia has been a part of the Fit Family Challenge for three years now, with this year being a bit unique! As a past participant, Patricia received an email from San Antonio Sports at the beginning of May explaining the transition from in-person to virtual classes due to the pandemic. Fit Family Challenge Zumba instructor, Theresa Schoutz, persuaded her to join the fun!

Initially, Patricia was worried about the technology involved with Fit Family Challenge’s new virtual classes. But with the help of her son, she downloaded the Zoom platform and found “it was simple!” To those who have yet to join a Fit Family Challenge class, Patricia says the virtual classes allow you to go at your own pace. “It’s on your own and nobody is truly watching, so you don’t feel the same pressures as you might at an in-person class.”

When asked about Patricia’s favorite part about the class, she said the times offered. “I love the evening time because, after a long day, I can have a little time to myself for some Zumba!” Patricia is retired and reinforces the importance of staying active and how she personally focuses on increasing her endurance each week.

She plans to use her Academy Sports + Outdoors gift card for more activewear.

Congratulations Patricia!
