Wesley Poppel learned of volunteer opportunities with San Antonio Sports when he found out about the Valor Games Southwest on our web site. Since that time he tries “to do every event that pops up.” He enjoys helping the community be active and “there’s always a new or exciting event I know is going to be fun.”
Wesley works at Joint Base San Antonio so it’s no surprise that the Valor Games is his favorite event. “Being able to help fellow veterans learn or perform a new activity, or assist them with adaptive technology was amazing!” He also says that seeing them smile and have a great time was a wonderful experience.
Wesley also enjoyed volunteering for the Fed Cup tennis competition, serving as a driver which entailed being available around the clock. “I never thought that I would get to interact with professional athletes, but I also got to watch them win the event. It was memorable!”
