Volunteer Spotlight: Melissa Nanez

Around the office, we often say how we simply could not do what we do without volunteers. Many of them share their time and energy with multiple organizations, including Melissa Nanez. “I have always been a volunteer–at work, at home, at school–and for many reasons. I love the interaction with new people and most of all, the difference I am able to make in the community,” she explains. She learned about San Antonio Sports when she was researching organizations for her daughter who needed volunteer hours for National Honor Society. She learned about the Fit Family Challenge and since then, “it’s been a domino effect. I look forward to the emails with new opportunities to lend a helping hand.”

Her favorite event was the 2019 San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute. “It was such a glamorous event.  I was able to dress up and mingle among San Antonio’s finest. I was able to learn about the inductees, be at the live auction and listen to the entertainment as the night progressed. I even got a picture with Malik Rose!”

But what she likes most of all is being able to have her daughter join her volunteering.  “It gives us memories and lets us enjoy quality time. It has also has been a great teaching tool for being one with the community and giving back. This is what I consider priceless.”

We’re thrilled that Melissa is a fan of our nonprofit organization and our mission. “San Antonio Sports does wonders and brings so many opportunities to those who are looking to impact others.”  She also appreciates the work of Volunteer Manager Tony Benke.  “I believe his passion and knowledge of the organization is easily passed on to others which makes anyone want to continue volunteering.” If you’d like to join Melissa and make a difference in our community, a list of upcoming volunteer opportunities can be found at volunteer.sanantoniosports.org.
