Volunteer Spotlight: Skip Cordes

When Skip Cordes moved to San Antonio, he wanted to find a way to give back to the community. While living in Philadelphia, he was involved with the Boy Scouts for many years and San Antonio Sports’ youth programs appealed to him. He thought the organization would be a good match for his goals. Like many, Skip learned about San Antonio Sports when he volunteered for the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2018.

The Alpha Warrior Team Tough Challenge is Skip’s favorite event. He enjoys seeing high school students working tougher as a team to accomplish a goal. “The feeling I got from the kids was winning wasn’t important…completing the course was,” he explained. Another favorite is seeing all the costumes people wear during the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon.

Skip is a regular at many of our events and has developed friendships with his fellow volunteers. He was prepared to serve at the UIL Boys Basketball Championships in March when it was canceled. He is eagerly looking forward to events resuming so he can see his friends again and continue to volunteer his time. We are too!
