Celebrating 25 Years of Sports Excellence

The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame, a partnership between San Antonio Sports, the San Antonio Express-News and City of San Antonio, inducted its first class 25 years ago in 1995. Since then, we’ve inducted 97 men, 17 women and two teams, who either hail from the Alamo City or conducted their careers here. Each has made a significant impact in the sports community through outstanding athletic achievement or major involvement and contributions to athletic programs. On March 28, we will add another team and four outstanding individuals when we induct the 1972 Trinity University Men’s Tennis Team, San Antonio’s only NCAA Div. I champion in a team sport, former UTSA Athletic Director Lynn Hickey, high school and college basketball scoring great Stan Bonewitz, professional and Golden Glove champion boxer Mike Ayala, and former San Antonio Spurs Chairman Brigadier General Robert McDermott.

The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute is a first-class gala and our largest annual fundraiser. An outstanding auction and live entertainment are part of the evening. Some of the items up for bid include tickets to the 2021 Super Bowl (with airfare), a new truck, a custom Napa wine trip, and a Las Vegas experience for six complete with rooms at the Bellagio, show and airfare. We are also introducing the Golden Ticket tiered raffle featuring a Holland-America cruise, a $3,000 La Cantera shopping spree, big screen TV, airline tickets and more! The program closes with a performance by Resurrection – A Journey Tribute, considered to be ‘The Gold Standard’ of Journey tribute bands. So make sure you wear your dancing shoes!
