In 2014, San Antonio Sports took over the San Antonio High School All-Star Game and moved it to the Alamodome, where it has been played since. The football game features the top 118 seniors from around the San Antonio area and has been played since 1978. It was originally founded by the Kiwanis Club and later operated by Kids Sports Network until 2013. Kickoff is after the All-American Bowl, a showcase for the nation’s best prospects.
Thousands of football fans come to the Alamodome annually to witness the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game, including a record-setting, sellout crowd of 20,000 in 2024. Another record was set in the 2024 game, as 74 players signed to play college football, and 15 more signed to play other collegiate sports.
Even prior to the 2024 game, the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game has provided a stepping stone for players to excel in college and the NFL. The game has given rise to players like Bruce Collie, a two-time Super Bowl champion, and Marcus Davenport, a UTSA Hall of Famer.
The All-Star Game returns to the Alamodome for the 47th edition on January 11, 2025. While once Team Black and Team Gold were the ones clashing on the field, San Antonio Sports has decided to switch things for the next game. In 2025, Nick Rogers of Pieper High School will coach Team White, while Eddie Salas of Harlan High School will coach Team Blue. The teams’ jerseys will look a little different, but the game will showcase the same level of homegrown talent it always has. A selection committee made up of local journalists, coaches and analysts will select players nominated by their high school coaches to play in the 2025 All-Star Game.
