The Light at the Beginning is the Light at the End

Our journey began when the Olympic Torch was lit in Colorado Springs in 1993 in preparation for the U.S. Olympic Festival in San Antonio. The journey of the torch down to the Alamodome mirrors that of a similar journey: the one San Antonio Sports has taken over the past 40 years. That’s why, to end our memorable moments, we finish with the end of the torch’s journey.

On July 23, 1993, the Olympic torch entered the Alamodome. In front of 62,702 fans, the torch made its way to the cauldron, where the Olympic flame was lit. That moment of light began the Olympic Festival. It also helped mark the beginning of San Antonio Sports’ journey to today.

In the same way that each mile the torch traveled to San Antonio brought it closer to the Alamodome, each moment we’ve covered in this journey has brought us to today, the 40th anniversary. Each moment touched new lives, helped uplift the San Antonio community and brought the power of sport to new places.

That’s all for this memorable moments journey. All we can do now is wonder what will be the torch that begins the next 40 years of San Antonio Sports.
