If you were at the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute on March 9, we hope you’ll agree we have one of the best galas in town. From unparalleled silent, Big Board and live auctions, to a delicious dinner and “dance til you drop” live entertainment, it was a beautiful evening. We inducted four outstanding individuals into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame: Dr. David R. Schmidt, Jim Streety, Bruce Collie and Malik Rose. Each shared moving stories about how the power of sport has influenced his life while thanking those who made a difference in their lives. For me, one of the highlights of the evening was hearing fourth grader Samuel Ochoa talk about how San Antonio Sports’ i play! afterschool program changed his life; how his behavior improved as he learned values like sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty and teamwork. The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute is our largest annual fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting our youth programs and kids like Samuel. We appreciate the support of our tri-chairs: Dean Radla, chair of San Antonio Sports Board of Directors, City of San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, and San Antonio Express-News Publisher Susan Pape. Thanks to everyone who bought a ticket, a table, auction item, or gave during the “Big Ask”. Our net fundraising for the evening was over $400,000, and your support will help San Antonio Sport deliver the power of sport to even more children and give them the opportunity to be healthy, fit and to fulfill their dreams.
