The San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup has become an annual tradition for companies around San Antonio. Once a year the University of the Incarnate Word campus turns into what can best be described as Olympic Village meets college football tailgate. It can all be traced back to 2012, when the inaugural Corporate Cup event brought together approximately 3,500 employees from 54 local companies to compete in 13 events.
The events ranged from a 5K run and 4×100-meter relay to golf chipping and dodgeball. Thousands of employees enjoyed a day of sports, networking and camaraderie. At the end of the event, four teams were awarded their division’s Corporate Cup trophy and bragging rights until the following year. USAA, Spurs Sports & Entertainment, Miner Fleet Corporation and Clear Channel Outdoor were the inaugural Corporate Cup champions.
Over the years, Corporate Cup has nearly doubled in participation and fun. This past year, nearly 8,000 employees and spectators from 83 companies competed in 17 different events. Since the inaugural Cup, San Antonio Sports has added a BBQ contest, tailgate competition three-point contest and pickleball tournament, among others.
One of the most significant parts of Corporate Cup throughout the years has been the Charity Challenge, providing San Antonio Sports with a unique opportunity to support other nonprofits in the community. Just this past year, more than $100,000, 286,000 meals and 10,000 pints of blood were donated during Corporate Cup. The event will return to UIW once again on May 31, 2025.
