COVID-19 has substantially altered the global landscape and efforts to preempt the spread of this virus have been implemented at the national, state and local levels. San Antonio Sports has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at the H.B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The health and well-being of our guests, volunteers, employees and community is our primary concern. Lynn Hickey, Stan E. Bonewitz, Mike Ayala, Brig. Gen. Robert McDermott and the 1972 Trinity University Men’s Tennis Team, who were scheduled to be inducted that evening, will instead be inducted next year on Feb. 27, 2021.
The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute is the largest fundraiser for San Antonio Sports’ free youth sports and community health initiatives. In addition to attracting more than 1,000 attendees, the event features an unparalleled auction. Many of our supporters have chosen to pledge their table purchases and sponsorships to help us continue the great work we do for our community. We’re grateful to the businesses and individuals who have donated auction items in support of the event. We will be hosting an online auction of sports memorabilia, unique experiences, gift cards, jewelry, vacations and more with the proceeds benefiting our nonprofit organization.
