Thank goodness for Google! That’s how Lisa Colvin learned about San Antonio Sports two years ago when she moved here. Lisa is a certified coach for USA Cycling, USA Track & Field and USA Swimming, plus she’s an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Health and Kinesiology at Texas A&M San Antonio. She was looking for a way to connect with the community through sport and San Antonio Sports was the first organization to appear in her online search. “After researching the organization and identifying if I had any skills I could offer, I realized we were an ideal match,” she explains.
Lisa has volunteered at the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame, Valor Games, Corporate Cup, and Fit Family Challenge. Her favorite event was the NCAA Men’s Final Four. She was able to pick from a wide variety of volunteer positions, and it also allowed her to involve her students. “Having a hand in making a national event a success and seeing how the San Antonio community came together was so gratifying. Knowing that we have been awarded showcase NCAA events in the years to come is exciting, and to be a part of that again is incredible!”
Lisa spent her Fiesta Friday volunteering at the Alpha Warrior Team Tough Challenge and found interacting with high school students a blast. “It was so rewarding not only to be the person who helped teams transition from one obstacle to another, but I was able to be a part of the event from aspects I would have never expected. How awesome is that?!!
“Volunteering with San Antonio Sports has allowed me to give back to the world of sport that has given so much to me. I have been a coach, teacher, athlete, athletic administrator, NCAA championships chair, official and mentor for 30 years. I am given the opportunity to be as involved as deeply as I desire. To help ensure the success of an event and be part of a team that honestly values your time and effort is truly rewarding! I came to San Antonio knowing no one and now I have made friends for life.”
