George Pulvermacher understands the power of sport and it’s one of the reasons he volunteers for our nonprofit organization. “Sports have always held a special spot in my heart,” he explains. “I played sports throughout high school and continue to play them any time I get the chance. I have seen the value they bring in building teamwork, determination, communication skills and conflict resolution skills. Most importantly, sports have helped me build some of the strongest bonds and relationships I have today. I volunteer in the hopes that I can create those experiences for others and to share my passion.” Initially George had planned to volunteer for one event, but he enjoys spending time with those who share his passion, and the rest (as they say) is history. “I always have such a good time when volunteering and it is usually the highlight of my month.”
George learned about volunteer opportunities with San Antonio Sports when he wanted to watch games at the UIL Basketball State Tournament which is held annually in the Alamodome. It has turned into his favorite event, and he has served twice as a team host. It is the best seat in the house and he enjoys watching some great basketball.
Serving as a traffic guide during the Corporate Cup was his most memorable experience. “There were cars going everywhere and people everywhere, but the three of us somehow made such an effective team so quickly. Even with all the chaos we were able to control traffic and create smooth and easy routes for the attendees. It was amazing how quickly our team was able to bond and get to work.”
George is only in San Antonio for another year, but plans to make the most of his time and volunteer whenever he can. If you’d like to join George at an upcoming event and make a difference, click here for a list of volunteer opportunities.
