San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2022

The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2022.  Former WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars All-Star and NCAA Champion Sophia Young-Malcolm, 12-year NFL veteran Ndukwe Dike “N.D.” Kalu, iconic high school football coach, George Pasterchick, and Baylor University track All-American Natalie Nalepa Linam will be inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 23, 2022 in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Sophia Young-Malcolm was a two-time All-American at Baylor University and helped lead the team to their first national championship in 2005. Young still ranks fourth all-time in scoring, fifth in field goal percentage and second in rebounds. She was the fourth pick in the 2006 WNBA draft by the San Antonio Silver Stars where she played for nine years. She averaged 14.3 points and six rebounds per game and was named to the Western Conference WNBA All-Star team three times. She tallied 4,300 career points and 1,807 rebounds in a career that spanned from 2006-2015 and resulted in a selection to the San Antonio Stars’ All-Decade Team. Young also played overseas in the Euroleague and Eurocup. She was a 2016 inductee into the Baylor University Athletics Hall of Fame and a 2021 inductee into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

Ndukwe Dike “N.D.” Kalu was a defensive end drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997. He also played for the Washington Redskins before finishing his career with the Houston Texans in 2008. He played college football and graduated from Rice University, leaving as their all-time sacks leader (and still ranks third). He went to San Antonio’s Marshall High School where he holds their high jump record at 7 ft. Kalu currently utilizes his knowledge of sports and “gift of gab” at sports radio KBME in Houston, hosting “In the Trenches” weekday mornings from 10-noon.

George Pasterchick was the dean of San Antonio high school football coaches when he retired at the age of 75 in 2010.  He spent the majority of his career at St. Gerard Catholic School where his teams won eight district titles and the Texas Christian Interscholastic League state championship in 1985. He was also well known in minor-league football circles, coaching the San Antonio Toros and San Antonio Charros. For more than 30 years, Pasterchick coached the annual high school all-star football game, and the trophy is named in his honor. Pasterchick passed away in 2012 at the age of 82.

Natalie Nalepa Linam set records at Baylor University in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. She was a five-time NCAA All-American and in 1991, won five Southwest Conference championships: indoor mile, indoor 3,000M, outdoor 1500M, 3,000M and 5,000M titles. She is Baylor’s first three-sport All-American. In 1987, while a student at Madison High School, Nalepa won the 3200M UIL State Championship. She is a 2002 Baylor University Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, 2017 Southwest Conference Hall of Fame inductee, and 1995 Texas Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Nalepa holds the Austin Capitol 10,000 race course record which she set in 1997.
