The 2020 Spring Round-up, hosted by San Antonio Sports and NISD Aquatics might have been the last sporting event going on when the world came to a halt in mid-March. Our partnership with the NISD Swim Center & Natatorium has been extremely successful since the world-class facility was built with support from the 2008 Bexar County bond program. After canceling several national events during the pandemic, it’s been great to dive back into the pool over the past few weeks starting with the AAU Diving Red White & Blue Central Nationals and the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program Regional Championships. Among the 200 divers who participated, the AAU dive meet also featured three-time Olympian and Olympic gold medalist, Laura Wilkinson, who was using the competition as a tune-up prior to vying for her fourth Olympic appearance at the upcoming Olympic Trials.
The USA Water Polo meet brought great competition to San Antonio with 47 teams and 700 athletes from all over the country showing off their talents in front of coaches and evaluators who were watching their progress for the Olympic development, talent pipeline. We look forward to welcoming USA Water Polo back to the Alamo City over Labor Day weekend when we host our second “Welcome to Texas Shootout” tournament, expecting to draw more than 60 teams.
Swim caps off to the incredible NISD Aquatics staff and team for pulling off back-to-back, successful events!
