From the back of the class to getting certified to teach Zumba, Adriana Combe has come a long way since her first Fit Family Challenge presented by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Texas Zumba class. A friend invited her to try it six years ago. “I started out at the back and I was unable to complete the entire class, but I learned you can always modify or if you get lost just march in place,” she recalls. Soon she could be found on the front row and even danced facing the students “up close and personal with the instructors! I felt so good I started whooping and hollering in the class not even paying mind to the yelps, grunts and shouts of encouragements coming from me!”
Adriana’s frequent attendance paid off when she won the monthly Fit Family Challenge Home Edition $100 gift card drawing for July. Participants are automatically entered to win every time they stay for at least 75% of class.
Adriana says anyone who’s hesitant to try class should know that it’s a “complete no judgement zone” with fitness levels from beginners to advanced, students of all ages, males and females. “We’re so busy looking at the instructor’s dance cues to notice others around us once the class begins.”
She finds this summer’s virtual format easy to follow and convenient. “What I like most about it is that it’s in the comfort of your own home while staying safe. You can dress however you like and don’t have to show yourself working out if you’re having a bad hair day!”
Like many, she’s developed friendships over the years through Fit Family Challenge (“we are like a big family”) and says the best part is dancing your stress away. “What I find is that after Zumba you tend to watch what you eat and the health tips Fit Family Challenge provides educates you on healthier habits.”
Her husband encourages her to take that “me” time because Zumba has improved her mood, energy and self-worth. “Now I can attend several classes and I’m a better version of my old self and much happier! I thank Fit Family Challenge for providing me with this free opportunity. I loved Zumba so much that last summer I became a certified instructor and started teaching a class at my work in the afternoons three times a week.”
Adriana plans to use her gift card to purchase a few outfits and get some weights so she can add a bit of resistance to the Zumba workouts. She enthusiastically shares that she can’t picture what her life was like before “this amazing program! The gifts and drawings are also an added bonus of the Fit Family Challenge and I thank you with all of my heart for this opportunity! God Bless and ZUMBA ON!!!”
