San Antonio Sports (SAS) offers non-paid internships to students interested in learning the inner workings of a sports oriented non-profit organization. SAS staff members work directly with interns to provide a beneficial and enlightening real world experience. Internships are available in the following areas: finance, event planning, sponsorships, marketing, communications, videography, youth programs, volunteer development, bid & event management, 2018 Men’s Final Four.
Requirements

Applicants must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 9:00am – 5:00pm, at the SAS offices in San Antonio, Texas. They must also be available to work San Antonio Sports events, many of which occur on weekends and evenings, as directed by their immediate supervisors.

Applicants must be able to provide their own housing and transportation.

Undergraduate and graduate level students are encouraged to apply. Preference is given to students who are seeking internships for school credit.

Internship Descriptions

Bid & Event Management interns will assist with in-depth research and data gathering on events that San Antonio Sports is actively bidding on or events that we may want to create. Duties include inputting data in bid documents in preparation for production and then submission of bids; working alongside the vice president of bids and events in developing bid strategy and event portfolio management; reaching out, making and developing contacts of key event stakeholders; and working with other departments including sponsorship.

Marketing interns will assist staff efforts to build the San Antonio Sports brand and awareness. Responsibilities include strategic and grassroots marketing efforts such as writing and distributing marketing materials, developing marketing pieces and communicating with SAS partners.

Public Relations interns will assist with media communications, social media strategy and implementation, press relations surrounding special events, compiling press kits and a variety of other PR tasks.

Videography interns will assist the communications department by videotaping and editing primarily short-form videos that can promote the organization and its programs and events across all San Antonio Sports digital platforms and externally. A professional video camera and Final Cut Pro X editing software is available for the intern’s use. Interns may also use their own equipment if they prefer.

Sponsorship interns will assist in sponsorship fulfillment for the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon and other events. Tasks may include researching sales leads, coordinating corporate teams and distributing event literature.

Finance interns will assist the finance department with monetary aspects of the organization including assisting with accounts receivable and accounts payable; data entry; filing (checks, invoices, journal entries etc.); assisting with audits; assisting with month-end and year-end financial reports; posting journal entries; and special projects . Students should be working towards finance, accounting, or a related degree.

Special Event/Fundraising Planning interns will help the director of development organize San Antonio Sports fundraising events, which include the San Antonio Sports Charity Golf Classic (October), Play for Kids Tennis Tournament (October), and San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute gala (January). In an effort to produce highly successful events, interns should expect to manage auction solicitation, manage auction inventory, communicate with various committees, interact with vendors, participants and volunteers.

Youth program interns will assist with program logistics and strategic projects related to SAS youth programs and events. These programs include Fit Family Challenge, i play! afterschool, Go!Kids Challenge and KiDS ROCK. Interns will help manage day-to-day program operations including creating program materials, managing sports equipment, and event planning and execution. The youth programs intern will often interact with program partners, parents and children. Youth program interns will gain valuable experience in programming, event planning, youth sports, and community health.

Volunteer Development interns will work with the volunteer coordinator to plan, contact, cultivate and maintain the volunteer base for a variety of events throughout the year. Must have excellent customer service skills and ability to think on one’s feet.

2018 NCAA Men’s Final Four interns will assist in all areas of planning and preparing the local organizing committee for the 2018 NCAA Final Four. Projects may include special event operations and planning, organizing meetings, venue research, volunteer recruitment, grassroots marketing, etc.
